In this tutorial you will learn how to make money from email list. This is one of the most critical paths to finding success when it comes to selling to your subscribers, that is, the people who make up the email list you’re building.
So I’m really excited you’re here to learn how to sell to the list you’re going to be creating for your product.
In the previous module we discussed How to Create Squeeze Pages. So you can go back to that if you need to do some revision about how to create squeeze pages.
It’s All About Free, Free Content
As part of the discussion on how to make money from email list of any type, I’ll like to quickly talk about how to always over deliver free contents to your subscribers.
This will help you build a relationship with your list, which is very important. Without that relationship, it’s going to be very hard for you to sell to them.
We are also going to be talking about the different types of free content you can give to your list.
So if you want to give a pdf, or if you want to do a video, or send a broadcast, or whatever you want to send out to your list, just know there are so many different ways to go about doing it.
Then lastly, we’re going to be talking about how you can outsource this stuff.
So if you don’t want to create your free content like pdfs and videos yourself, we will discuss how you can get someone else to do it for very cheap for you.
So you can still supply that to the list and give your list very valuable stuff. Those are the things we will be covering in this tutorial.
Make sure you get your notepad out and ready to take notes. And I can’t wait to jump into the first one, which is going to be all about building that relationship with your list and how you can go about doing that.
How to Build a Relationship with Your Subscribers – The ‘Freemium’ Concept
To learn how to build a relationship with your subscribers, you first have to Now what I want to learn the whole concept of giving free things.
Why Do You Want to Give Your List Free Things?
The reason is simple. You want to over deliver to your list to make sure that your list really likes you.
Here’s a perfect example of this: if you’re walking on the street and someone comes up to you and says, Hey, buy this.
If you’ve never seen this person before, or if you don’t know anything about them, your first reaction you’re going to have is like, whoa, who are you?
But if a friend came up to you and says, hey, you should buy this thing.
If you have a relationship with that friend (you know who they are and you trust them), chances are that you’re going to buy that thing they’re recommending. You’re going to say, yeah, I’ll check that out. I’ll buy it.
So that’s what building a relationship is. You got to think about that same concept and you’ve got to think about it to your list.
Don’t Pitch or Promote All the Time to Your Subscribers
Now what I always like to do is I like to put myself in the situation as what I would want.
You know, if I’m being pitched or sold all the time by someone, chances are that I’m not going to trust what they’re saying. The reason is I’m just going to assume they’re selling me the next thing just to make money.
But if that person is giving me free content or sending me free stuff, things that actually add value to my life, that gives me that trust level with the person.
So when they do recommend a product, like when they say, hey, you should check this out, my chances of buying it are going to be a lot higher.
From now on, you’re going to want to do the same thing to your list that you’ve created so that you can easily sell the products you’re promoting as an affiliate.
How to Pitch or Promote to Your Subscribers
Now what I like to pretty much do is to give away 2 to 3 free things first and then I do a pitch. Next, I give another 2 to 3 free things again and then I do a pitch and so on. So every week you’re giving say 2 things away for free.
Now those 2 or 3 free things could be ebooks, they can be videos, or whatever the case may be. There are different types of things you can give, but you always want to give something of value to your list.
Let’s say you send a free thing out on Monday and you send another free thing out to your list on Wednesday. Then you can send out a promotion for the affiliate product you’re promoting on that Thursday.
Once you do that, go back to send 2 free things again to your list and then you can do another promotion of your affiliate product. This way, your list isn’t getting bombarded by promotions.
Instead, they are looking forward to opening your emails and they want to buy the stuff.
But if you’re just selling, selling and selling, well, it may work in the beginning, but your subscribers are going to start to realize that all you’re doing is promoting to them.
Then a lot of them will unsubscribe or won’t open your emails anymore. They may even mark your emails as spam in their email filters.
Too Much Promotion Makes Email Open Rate to Drop
When you promote to your list too often, your email open rate will drop a lot.
On the other hand, if you’re giving free content away, your subscribers will continue to open your emails and you’re open rate will either increase or stay the same. Then you don’t have to worry about people unsubscribing.
You’re always going to have only occasional unsubscribing as something that’s just part of the game.
Different Types of Free Things You Can send to Your List
Now let’s talk about the different types of free things you can send to your list. There’s a whole wide variety of things you can give.
For example, you can send them pdfs in your emails. Just a straight up email with no link anywhere.
You can also send them downloadable ebooks, an audio or a podcast, or a video that you made by yourself talking about what the free content is about. Your audio or video can be talking about different topics.
Let’s say you’re really passionate about health and fitness. That’s what you’re doing and you want to talk about it in your video and ‘brand’ yourself. You are a brand to your list.
Now, I know some people may not want to be in video, which is fine, so maybe a pdf is the route to go for them.
Why Videos Are So Great to Use as Free Content
If you’d like being on video or you’re comfortable being on video and you feel like you can really go ahead and talk about your valuable content, that’s one of the best ways, in my opinion.
Now the reason why videos are so great is because you can use videos to build a connection with your viewers. Videos will help them recognize you and your brand.
If you’re watching a video of someone you’ve never met you before, it’s most likely but you will feel a connection with them because they’ve been talking to you from a couple of videos.
This relationship is very important when it comes to giving away free content to your subscribers because you want them to feel like they know you, right?
That’s a very important because that connection or ‘bonding’ is what’s going to get them to really open their emails or look forward to getting emails from you and eventually by the affiliate products you’re sending out to them.
So if you can create videos and you are passionate about the niche you’re in, then I say that’s the best way to go about doing it.
Now these videos you can create don’t have to be long videos. They don’t have to be crazy, they don’t have to be anything fancy. It just seems to be a short video giving away a good piece of content to your list.
Keep everything simple and to the point you don’t want to over do it. You don’t want to make a video 30 minutes or 20 minutes long. Your videos can be about 3 minutes long. 2 minutes, 4 minutes, or even 5 minutes is ok.
I don’t think you need to ever make it longer than 5 minutes. Just look straight to the camera and talk about your free content.
How to Find the Free Content to Give Your Email List
There’s a lot of great free contents (like ebooks and videos) out there in the niche that you’re involved in.
You can kind of rewrite the ebooks in your own words by typing it out in a Word document or transcribe the videos and then saving them as pdfs. You can then deliver them as your free contents.
Your free contents can also be a mix up of ebooks, and videos.
Do Not Put Affiliate Links in Your Free Contents
Now here’s something very important. You don’t want to do any pitching when you’re giving out your free content.
Let’s say you’re sending out a pdf as your free content. You don’t want to have any links like affiliate links in the pdf that send your subscribers off to buy any products. You want to keep it strictly free.
All of this content you’re creating now is to build that relationship with your list, make them trust you and want to buy from you in the future when you recommending a product for them, that is your affiliate product.
So if you do any pitching now, that’s going to affect your conversion rate later and it’s also going to kind of affect, you know, the relationship with your list.
So remember, make everything you do now, be it a video, a pdf or ebook, completely free. Nothing else at all. No pitching at all.
Make Your Free Content Related to What Your Subscribers Signed up For
The perfect free content in your niche for your list is obviously the one that is related to what they signed up.
So let’s say a person comes to your squeeze page and signs up for 3 simple tricks to train your dog.
This is a dog training niche, so you want to make sure that all the free content you send them from now on is all related to dogs.
You don’t want to start sending them cat-related, goldfish-related or golf-related stuff, or anything that’s completely unrelated to the dog niche.
You want to keep it relevant to what they signed up for and you to want to make sure that the content that you’re sending them also has to do with the niche or is a sub niche of whatever they signed up for.
Make Your Free Content Related to Your First Affiliate Product
This is something very important because it’s going to help you boost your conversion rate.
Keep your subscribers warmed up for your first Affiliate Product by sending out free stuff that is directly related to the first affiliate product you plan to promote to them.
For example, let’s say your first affiliate product is all about “how to train your dog to sit right”.
You want to make sure that those first 2 or 3 emails that you’re sending out to your list (those free contents) aren’t just about dog training in general.
It should be more focused on training your dog with sitting. That way when it comes to the product, your subscribers will find it very relevant because they have been warmed up already for the actual product.
